MICK and
Janette Connolly attribute much of their two sons’ work ethic to
their teenage years working in the family JAXQuickfit Tyres
Gladstone store.
Starting
out as a bank manager, Mick took a plunge into business
ownership with wife Janette when they purchased a petrol station
on the same site as the current JAXQuickfit Tyres store they now
own.
“We
started pumping petrol, then moved into selling second-hand
tyres because there was a market for it,’’ Mrs Connolly
said.
“It
was then 12 years ago that we opened our own JAXQuickfit Tyres
here on the site.”
Heavily
involved in the junior rugby union scene in the area, Mick and
Janette used the small amount of spare time they had wisely when
their sons were young.
“Mick
coached the boys rugby union at school and then the boys got
their first jobs here as soon as they were old enough to work
and they have gone on to be successful tradesmen – they have a
very good work ethic,’’ Mrs Connolly said.
Locals
come from as far afield as Tannum Sands and Calliope to the
Gladstone store, and in an effort to service their customers
JAXQuickfit Tyres Gladstone is open from 7:30am-5:30pm Monday to
Friday and 7:30am to 12 midday on Saturdays.
“We
have a lot of shift workers in town, so we have to work with
them,’’ Mrs Connolly said.
