2008 Australia V8 Supercar Championship
: Round 5
Cameron McConville achieved a solid weekend of results recovering from
a very difficult Qualifying (24th) after some brake balance problems to score solid points to run
in the top fifteen in all 3 races.
Cameron : “This
weekend was a real test. It started with a grubby head cold! We had
brake and chassis balance problems early and worked as a Team to
improve the car progress our position across the 3 races.
Good pit
stops, smart strategy calls, some inspired set-up decisions for
the wet. They were busy days in the office. I had everything on the
line in recovery mode trying to get back to where the front of the
field.” |

Race 1
Some of the brake and chassis balance issues were overcome for Race 1. A great
start, a smart strategy (pitting Lap 21) and a rapid pit stop shuffled Cameron back into contention.
He battled hard moving up an impressive ten positions to bring home a solid 14th.
Race 2
Wet conditions made Race 2 a real scramble. Despite some excessive
wheel spin at
the start Cameron excelled in the opening laps passing Mark Skaife, Garth Tander and a bunch of
cars. As the track conditions improved the rear
tyres overheated halting the rate of progress but
in the end Cameron sailed home between Tander and Will Davison for a well-deserved 10th.
Race 3
On a dry track Cameron made a tardy start but quickly recovered the lost ground in the
opening laps. The Team adopted an alternative pit strategy in Race 3 taking the stop early this
time and clearing Cameron from the surrounding traffic. Glowing brakes and blazing headlights
made a spectacular sight as McConville continued his battle with Jason Bright, Garth Tander
and Steven Johnson. At the flag the WOW Commodore was 13th.
