Cam McConville makes solid progress at eventful round in Ipswich

2008 Australian V8 Supercar Championship Round 7 Overview

Cam McConville  finished 10th overall this weekend after another eventful Round of high intensity V8 Supercar racing. Qualifying didn’t quite run to plan but Cameron made solid progress, particularly in Races 1 and 2 to snatch a fist full of points

Cameron : “Overall I’m pleased with the Top Ten Round result but we didn’t quite nail the weekend like I had hoped. The Race 2 result was much more like it and I reckon that was about where we should have been in Qualifying and the other 2 races. Given how tough it is to master this track it was still a good outcome. I’m really now looking forward to Winton”

Racing Summary
Cam McConville Qualified (18th) despite some nagging brake balance problems and progressed into the second group in the elimination Qualifying process.

Current Championship Position: 16th      Points:  889 pts.

Race 1
The car had good speed, especially on the set 2 tyres and Cam fought back after Qualifying and raced hard in a huge battle with Steve Johnson, Paul Morris, Fabian Coulthard and Greg Murphy.

Race 2
Overnight improvements made the car more consistent and easier on the rear tyres. The WOW Racing crew produced an awesome pit stop and Cam jumped Dumbrell & Skaife in the process. The Team felt the 9th place finish was a better indication of their real form.

Race 3
Early on it looked like Cameron was on target to repeat the Race 2 success. However, after the pit stop, when chasing Mark Skaife, Cam made a small mistake under brakes at Turn 6, locked-up and ran wide losing 5 spots. He later regained one position passing Steven Johnson to finish 14th.
