Dunlop will launch its latest ultra high performance tyres to the public, the SP Sport Maxx TT and SP Sport Maxx GT, at the inaugural Dunlop Townsville 400 V8 Supercar race, July 10-12.
As Dunlop’s new flagship ultra high performance tyres, the TT and GT provides improved wet and dry handling performance, as well as enhanced cornering and high-speed stability, giving driving enthusiasts the ultimate in driving precision.
Melissa Tilley, Dunlop Brand Manager, said that it’s fitting the TT passenger tyre is launched at the Dunlop Townsville 400 as the road tyre incorporates racing technologies derived from Dunlop’s motorsport tyres.
“For more than 120 years, Dunlop has taken key findings from its racing-tyre technologies to its road tyres to provide everyday drivers and driving enthusiasts with the safest, high performance tyres,” Ms Tilley said.
“Dunlop’s SP Sport Maxx TT, with DuPont™ Kevlar®, motorsport-derived compounds and Touch Technology, has again elevated the ultra high performance benchmark.
“A key feature is the DuPont™ Kevlar® in the tyre’s sidewall, which maintains stiffness and strength during steering. This enhances accelerating and braking responsiveness, increases cornering stability to create an exceptional driving experience,” she said.
Dunlop’s Touch Technology combines a number of sophisticated tyre technologies such as Multi Radius Tread Technology (MRT), a specific bead seat system, a flatter tread profile and an asymmetrical tread design with a variable land-to-sea ratio.
“Touch Technology is designed to provide true road feedback, enabling you to feel more in tune with the road and enhance driving control,” she said
“The MRT design employs 10 different radii, compared to a conventional three, to give an even pressure across the tyre to better control footprint evolution, leading to more precise and progressive reactions.
“The asymmetric tread design reduces aquaplaning, enhances grip on wet and dry surfaces, also the TT has a flatter tread profile with a larger contact patch, allowing the tyres to respond faster.”
As with its racing tyres, Dunlop used nanotechnology to develop a motorsport-derived compound for the SP Sport Maxx TT offering increased performance in both adhesion and wear.
Ford Performance Racing’s driver, Mark ‘Frosty’ Winterbottom, has praised the SP Sport Maxx TT after testing the new tyre on his personal vehicle.
“Dunlop has achieved the ultimate compromise between high speed control and wet weather performance with the inclusion of DuPont™ Kevlar® in the tyre’s construction,” Frosty said.
“Performance testing of the SP Sports Maxx TT has revealed significant improvements in wear along with vehicle handling in both dry and wet conditions when compared to the current SP Sports Maxx, which is globally recognised as an outstanding high performance tyre and the Original Equipment tyre of choice for Ford Performance Vehicles (FPV).
“The release of the new Dunlop SP Sport Maxx TT enables motorists to experience the closest thing to the grip levels that I am accustomed to when racing,” he said.
To support the launch of the SP Sport Maxx TT, Dunlop is also releasing the SP Sport Maxx GT in some key high performance vehicle sizes.
The SP Sport Maxx GT has been deigned to provide the ultimate dry performance at high speeds and to suit high performance vehicles such as the Porsche 911, Audi A8 and BMW M5. It is also fitted as Original Equipment on cars such as the Mercedes Benz AMG Black Series, Audi S5, BMW 7 Series and Mosler MT900 GTR.
