THE RESOUNDING SUCCESS OF THE INAUGURAL DUNLOP TOWNSVILLE 400 HAS SET A NEW STANDARD AS BEING ONE OF THE V8 SUPERCAR CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES MARQUEE ROUNDS.
The Dunlop event was exposed to millions of Australians via the live Channel 7 television telecast and huge amounts of news coverage across the weekend, as well as a crowd of approximately 170,000 people attending across the three days, support that signals that it is here to stay.
The praise of the inaugural Dunlop Townsville 400 has come thick and fast, including from V8 Supercars Australia Executive Chairman Tony Cochrane, who said he was just “blown away” with the success of Townsville’s first event.
“This has been a massive success,” said Cochrane.
“The numbers in our heads were nothing like this. It is a tremendous result and something that everyone involved should take tremendous pride in.”
Goodyear & Dunlop Tyres Vice President of Consumer & General Manager of Sales, David Petrie, said he was equally impressed by the event.
“I was enormously proud to see the scale of the event, what we produced in terms of on-track entertainment and the truly magnificent experience the Dunlop Townsville 400 provided for V8 Supercar fans,” Mr Petrie said.
“The crowd was amazing all weekend with excellent national television coverage also received.
“To start the event’s life off with such a bang is a very big high. Based on this year I can see that it will be one of the gems in the crown of the V8 Supercar Championship Series.”
