How about the 2009 MOTOR Magazine Tyre Test results! What an amazing achievement by Goodyear & Dunlop Tyres to take a clean sweep with their three entries, it really does show the outstanding products that they are producing are second to none.
I have had a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrics on my Ford Mondeo Turbo for about a year now. After reading about all the awards and accolades it was winning around the world when it was launched here in October 2008, as well as seeing its testing data and specs, it was exactly the high performance tyre I wanted to test out on my own personal car.
After around 10,000km of driving, the F1 Asymmetric has way surpassed all my expectations, it really is as good they say it is, maybe even better. It is fantastic not just in the dry, but also on wet roads. The guys at MOTOR put it well when they described the tyre has having “webbed feet” and is “freakishly good” in the wet.
Having also driven on the Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT quite a lot in my role as a ride and handling consultant with FPV/Prodrive, I knew that this tyre was really going to give the F1 Asymmetric a run for its money though and was not at all surprised when I heard that they came in 1-2.
I have always been a fan of the Sport Maxx family of tyres and the TT and GT have raised the bar even higher this year. If I had a Porsche Turbo or similar ‘Supercar’ I would probably get a set of the GTs on it, I have recommended it many times before to people seeking ultra high performance tyres.
Until next time, drive safely.
