The 2010 World Rally Championship will begin almost a month late, but the spectators’ wait will be compensated for by a glamorous new entry. Kimi Raikkonen, the 2007 Formula 1 world champion driver will join the Citroën-Red Bull team aboard a Citroën WRC C4 and is preparing himself to take on 12 of the 13 rallies of the season.
Raikkonen’s World Rally Championship debut dates back to this year’s Finnish event in the driving seat of an Abarth Grande Punto S2000. “I have always wanted to compete in rallying at a certain point in my career, in particularly the world championship” the Finn said at the start of his sabbatical year away from Formula 1.
“Thanks to Red Bull, I have the chance of driving the best car in the series, the Citroën C4. This is a new challenge for me, very exciting: for the moment my contract is for a year. We’ll see for the future”.
With Raikkonen Frenchman Sebastien Ogier will also join the Citroën Junior team driving a Red Bull C4. Both will make their debut mid February in Sweden at the start of a season expected to be charged with anticipation and rich in surprises. Here’s an advance on one of them: Loeb, Raikkonen and Valentino Rossi will all compete in the Rally of Mexico, the champions of the WRC, Formula 1 and MotoGP. They will be together in a rally under the aegis of Pirelli, the exclusive tyre supplier to the world series, which is becoming increasingly authoritative and loved by the world public.
