IN A REDUCED RACE TO TEN LAPS AT THE SEASON OPENING ROUND OF THE AUSTRALIAN SUPERBIKE CHAMPIONSHIP AT PHILLIP ISLAND ON FEBRUARY 26-28, WAYNE MAXWELL RODE THE FIRST PART OF THE RACE CONSERVATIVELY TO SAVE WEAR ON THE NEW DUNLOP CONTROL TYRE.
He then took the lead on Lap 6 to win comfortably in front of Honda Racing’s Bryan Starring and Ducati Motologic Racing’s Jamie Stauffer.
Maxwell, ecstatic after the race said, “I am absolutely stoked to get maximum points in Round 1.”
“We need to retain the momentum going into the next round and will be doing a lot of testing before then.”
Maxwell was also supportive of the team effort, “The Demolition Plus GAS Honda team have worked hard in preparation to give me a fantastic bike.”
The Viking Group Australian Superbike Championship moves to Darwin for Round 2 of the Series from April 8-10, where all riders are looking forward to a new circuit for the Championship.
