Members of Goodyear’s RDE&Q (Research, Development, Engineering & Quality) and Marketing teams convened in early March at the Goodyear corporate headquarters in Akron, USA, for the third annual “Innovation Creation Process” workshop – a collaborative effort focused on developing the next generation of Goodyear products.
The week-long workshop represented an intersection between technology and marketing. During the event, Fundamental Technology Program managers and Advanced Concepts leaders from Goodyear
RDE&Q presented the newest advancements in tyre technology, while marketers examined where these technologies could be used to improve Goodyear products over the next three to five years.
It’s a process which exemplifies Goodyear’s market-back approach to new product development and encourages a company-wide culture of innovation, according to Rick Scavuzzo, director of Technology
Programs and co-sponsor of the event.
“The goal of the workshop is to help bridge the gap between what our customers want and what our technologies can provide,” said Scavuzzo. “Ultimately, we want to take relevant ideas and turn them
into a commercial reality.”
Some of the innovations
showcased included advances in:
• Wet and dry traction
• Rolling resistance and treadwear
• Mud and snow traction
• Tyre information systems
(RFID, TPMS)
• Sustainable material use
• Comfort and noise reduction
• New, advanced tyre
architectures
• Self-inflating tyres
