Here and Now with John Bowe – July 2010

I have just returned from the ‘Dial Before You Dig’ Australian Six Hour at Eastern Creek Raceway that took place on July 18.  It was a new event on the 2010 motorsport calendar and doubled as round four of the Australian Manufacturers Championship.

The race was also the second endurance event on the program for the year, which kicked off with the Bathurst 12 Hour in February. I was again racing in the same BMW 335i that took us to victory at Bathurst, although I hadn’t been in the car since then!

Partnered with Peter O’Donnell at Eastern Creek, we managed to start from second on the grid, but it was Western Australian Dunlop dealer, Stuart Kostera, along with Warren Luff that really dominated the race in their Lancer EVO 10.

I was really hoping able to replicate my 1995 12 Hour victory with Dick Johnson at the circuit but had to settle for fifth place. Although we were the first two-wheel-drive across the finish line!

In the rubber department it was again a race dominated by the Dunlop Direzza O3G with all of the top 10 qualifiers, as well as 9 out of the top 10 finishers running on the awesome tyre (including the first 8 across the finish line!).

There is really no comparison on the market in the semi-slick category to these beauties both in the performance and reliability stakes.

Until next time, drive safely.
