Continental has Developed a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System for Smart Phones

Continental has developed a tyre pressure monitoring system that can report directly to smart phones via pressure sensors in intelligent tyres.

Developed by Continental’s Interior Division, the ‘filling assistant’ communicates wirelessly with the smart phone and is able to specify the exact inflation pressure required for each tyre.

The application can let drivers know when the have reached the ideal pressure during inflation via a brief honk and blink signal.

Technical requirements for the system are a tyre pressure monitoring system with the corresponding sensors in the tyres and factory-integrated vehicle electronics with a wireless interface.

Continental predicts the system will be available in new vehicles from 2013 and users should expect enhanced driving safety and fuel efficiency.
