GOODYEAR BACKED HUNTER RACING POSTED A VERY SUCCESSFUL RESULT IN THE THIRD ROUND OF THE 2010 AUSTRALIAN OFFROAD CHAMPIONSHIP
The V8 Jeep Grand Cherokee has won its class, ‘Extreme 4WD’, every year since its debut five years ago, but has had a mixed season this year. That all changed though when Colin Hunter, navigator Simon Campbell and the Queensland-based Extreme MotorSports crew finished first in class in the MTQ Engine Systems Griffith 700.
The Griffith event was run over the weekend of July 23-25, in and around the Blue Dot Speedway complex about 10km west of Griffith in south-western NSW. The race was made up of eight laps of an 87km course.
The team is also currently building a brand-new Dodge Ram, powered by an Extreme MotorSports-built V6 twin-turbo. The new car was to have made its debut at the next round, in Millicent SA, but plans have changed.
“We are a bit further behind with the new car than we planned to be at this point, so we may take the Jeep to Millicent and debut the new car in the final round at Goondiwindi,” Hunter said.
“Then again, that depends on what is happening with our championship chances. Obviously we would like another title on the record books. We’re currently sitting in second so we could wrap it up at Millicent or we could have a bad round and need Goondiwindi to still have a chance, or we could be totally out of contention.”
As of the end of 2009, Hunter Racing/Extreme MotorSports had a total of six class title wins in the national series. Currently the team is running second in the points tally for the 2010 crown.
