Pirelli to test Formula One tyres in Abu Dhabi

Pirelli recently conducted extensive tyre tests in the United Arab Emirates on its new Formula One tyres, marking its return to Formula One after a 19 year absence.

The 5.5 kilometres of the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi played host to Pirelli’s debut as Formula One’s official tyre, where the Italian tyre manufacturer tested 384 tyres over two days of intensive testing.

The first phase of tyre testing recently concluded in Europe, where Pirelli’s engineers conducted eight private tests over 7000 kilometres of challenging circuit conditions across the continent.

Pirelli has tested all the different types of tyres that will be supplied to the Formula One teams next year according to FIA regulations: four slick tyres (ranging from super-soft to hard), one intermediate tyre and one rain tyre.

After Abu Dhabi, Pirelli will move onto Bahrain for additional private testing in preparation for the first official tests with all the teams, beginning January 2011.

In its role as the official tyre supplier, Pirelli will supply 50,000 tyres to the Formula One World Championship.
