Michelin Pilot Sport 3 claims 2011 Wheels Tyre Test
The Michelin Pilot Sport 3 has claimed the 2011 Wheels Tyre Test, one of the most respected tyre tests in Australia.
With the assistance of the team at JAXQuickfit Tyres’ St Marys, Wheels put premium tyres from seven leading global manufacturers – Bridgestone, Continental, Dunlop, Kumho, Michelin, Nexen and Sumitomo – through a number of exercises to determine the best rubber.
The exercises were Wet and Dry Slalom, Wet and Dry Braking, Wet and Dry Cornering and Noise, with the tests conducted at Sydney’s Eastern Creek Raceway. The test size was 225/45R18, test vehicle Kia Optima.
Michelin took out top spot in four of the exercises, Dry Slalom, Dry Braking, Wet Cornering and Noise, whilst the Continental ContiSportContactTM 2, claimed Wet Slalom and Dry Cornering, with Kumho taking out the final test in Wet Braking.
Wheels said: “Given its utter dominance of individual tests, it should be no surprise that the winner of the 2011 Wheels Tyre Test is the Michelin Pilot Sport 3.”
Overall, Michelin scored 64.41 out of a possible 65 points, giving it a 99.09 per cent strike rate.
Throughout the two days of testing, the JAXQuickfit team stripped and mounted at least 72 tyres and according to Wheels they “couldn’t have done the test without them”.
