MICHELIN ENERGY™ XM2 Launched

Michelin’s latest energy efficient tyre that will deliver significant improvement in longevity has been launched in Australia. The MICHELIN Energy XM2 is proven to deliver 20 per cent longer tyre life when compared to its premium competitors*.

Thanks to their new and advanced technology, Michelin has been able to achieve longer tyre life without sacrificing other performances; this tyre also delivers improved fuel saving and safety attributes in all road conditions.

When developing the all-new MICHELIN ENERGY™ XM2 tyre, MICHELIN engineers sort to provide the balance of performance to provide increased tyre life, maximum safety and more fuel saving.

Backed by a budget of €500 million a year, the Group’s engineers have developed unique technologies that enable the MICHELIN ENERGY™ XM2 to deliver greater longevity, fuel saving and safety.

Intended for several categories of vehicles – including city cars, compacts and sedans – the new MICHELIN ENERGY™ XM2 was purpose-designed for motorists who want to drive responsibly and safely. The MICHELIN ENERGY™ XM2 can equip a wide array of vehicles, from small models to the largest sedans. This model is focusing on the 14”, 15” and 16” tyre segments. MICHELIN’s objective is to make its advanced technologies as widely available as possible.

How does MICHELIN ENERGY™ XM2 improve longevity?

Alternative Bridging Technology:

• Alternative bridging reinforces the rigidity of tread blocks. With rigidity enhanced, the tread blocks move less, reducing the rate of tyre wear.

Sipes with Alternating Bridge:

• This ‘bridge’ connection between tread blocks limits their flexibility, preventing rapid tyre wear without compromising on wet grip.

Another key requirement of all drivers is a tyre that protects their safety and their family.

How does the MICHELIN ENERGY™ XM2 ensure maximum safety?

The Micro Adaptive Compound and Optimum Void Grooves of the MICHELIN ENERGY™ XM2 guarantee user safety by reducing the risk of aquaplaning and drivers losing control of their vehicle.

Micro-adaptive compound:

• The tread compound of MICHELIN ENERGY™ XM2 is more flexible.
• It better adapts itself to irregularities of the road surface and therefore provides excellent grip.

Optimum void grooves:

• The tread grooves of the MICHELIN ENERGY™ XM2 can evacuate up to 20 per cent more water compared to the MICHELIN Energy XM1+. A higher volume of water evacuated at a faster rate lowers the risk of aquaplaning.

As drivers become increasingly aware of the impact they are having on the environment and as they feel the impact of constantly increasing fuel costs, fuel efficiency is becoming a key consideration in the automotive industry.

Tyres can account for up to 20 per cent of a vehicle’s fuel consumption and as such there is increasing demand for a longer lasting tyre that reduces fuel consumption, whilst maintaining a high standard of safety. The latest fuel saving tyre developed by Michelin, the MICHELIN ENERGY XM2 achieves this balance of performance.

How does the MICHELIN ENERGY™ XM2 reduce fuel consumption?

Full silica compound:

• The silica in the rubber compound reduces friction between the rubber particles, generating less heat.
• With less heat generated, less energy is lost thus reducing fuel consumption.

Green X marking:

• The MICHELIN Green X marking is a sign the tyre has met the high rolling resistance standards set by Michelin.
• It is a sign of Michelin’s commitment to reducing fuel consumption and CO² emissions, whilst maintaining longevity and safety.

MICHELIN ENERGY™ XM2 – A Real Life Fuel Saving Challenge

Earlier this year a team of drivers including representatives from Michelin, world record holders and journalists set out to test the latest Green X marked tyres, MICHELIN ENERGY™ XM2, on a Fuel Saving Challenge from Brisbane to Melbourne.
