Since my last column I have had a set of the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2s on my BMW M Sport and it is an understatement to say they are unbelievable! I have had them on for around four weeks and been putting in some big kilometres heading up and back to Winton Raceway a fair bit as well as around Melbourne, which at this time of year is a great place to test the wet weather performance.
The car was fitted OE with another brand and the comparison is remarkable, it is like chalk and cheese. The new Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2s are at least 25 percent quieter, well to my ear anyway, have much better dry grip, and incomparably better wet road performance in both lateral grip and braking.
Most importantly to me, they give far greater driver communication, as in the messages I get from the tyre. It actually enhances the driving pleasure, which to me is vitally important in this age of increasingly bland and dumbed down motor cars.
Something else that has noticeably improved has been my fuel economy. Usually with Ultra High Performance tyres they just give them a stickier compound which also increases rolling resistance and therefore reduces fuel efficiency. But these tyres not only step it up across all performance parameters, they are actually also reducing my fuel consumption according to my trip computer as well.
I have not been this impressed with a tyre for a long, long time!
“JB’S TYRE TIP OF THE MONTH” brought to you by Goodyear and Dunlop
Check your tyre pressures regularly, once a fortnight is what is generally recommended and ideally when your tyres are cold. Inspect tread and sidewalls for cuts and abrasions, bulges, unusual wear and road damage.
Until next time,
drive safely.
