Auto Express
The Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 is already topping the competition in independent comparative testing, with its latest win coming in the summer tyre test by the UK’s No. 1 weekly car news publication, Auto Express.
For its “Total Tyre Guide”, released September 7, Auto Express tested 10 leading Ultra High Performance tyres, including the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2.
Upon evaluation, Auto Express described the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 as an “impressive all-rounder that is an excellent choice for any condition”, as it beat out all competitors to claim the overall No. 1 spot and a “Best Buy 2011” endorsement.
Tyres were tested in nine categories – wet handling, wet braking, wet cornering, straight aquaplaning, curved aquaplaning, dry handling, dry braking, cabin noise and rolling resistance. Judges added up the percentage scores from each test to determine the “best all-around” tyre.
The Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 placed in the topthree standings in six out of the nine categories, performing best in wet braking, dry handling and rolling resistance.
Additional brands included in the tyre test were Bridgestone, Michelin, Pirelli, Dunlop, Vredestein, Nokian, Continental, Apollo and Hankook.
TyreReviews
Another recent win by the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 was the TyreReviews 2011 Subjective Shootout for Max Performance Summer Tyres in February this year. Based in the UK, TyreReviews describes itself as the leading source of independent tyre information in the world.
The TyreReviews testers were presented with three of the newest performance summer tyres, one each from Bridgestone, Continental and Goodyear. The outcome was “the newGoodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 was the clear winner in both performance and subjective feel”.
Tested in both the dry and the wet, the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 came out on top in both conditions. In the dry it was reported that “the feedback through the wheel was detailed, the turn in sharp, and the linearity of the cornering extremely positive”. In the wet, the tyre’s advantage over the competition was described as “obvious in both feel and performance”.
Auto Zeitung
Also in February, the well-respected German magazine, Auto Zeitung, tested a range of ultra high performance tyres and declared the latest Goodyear as “Very Recommendable”. The magazine testers commented that the new Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 was “strong in braking and safe at anytime”.
TÜV SÜD Automotive
The Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 was also extensively tested by independent testing organisation TÜV SÜD Automotive at test tracks in France and Germany in December 2010.
The tyre performed exceptionally well, delivering a three metre shorter braking distance on wet roads compared to the average performance of three leading competitors it was tested against. When the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 had come to a full stop, the competitors tested were still travelling at an average speed of 22 km/h.
In dry braking and handling tests, the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 stopped two metres shorter than the average performance of the three leading competitors. On dry roads, the competitors tested were still travelling at an average speed of 24 km/h while the Goodyear Eagle F1 had already come to a stop.
The TÜV SÜD Automotive test also confirmed that the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 delivers topclass rolling resistance in its category, with a seven per cent better rolling resistance compared to the average performance of three leading competitors.
