South Australian Kevin Weeks completed a perfect weekend at the Supaloc Classic Targa Adelaide on September 14-17, taking his Dunlop-shod 1974 Porsche 911 Carerra RS to top honours.
Weeks won the Shannons Classic Outright competition, for cars built before 1986, by over three minutes, securing him top points in the opening round of the four-event CAMS Australian Targa Championship.
This now makes it four wins in the event for Weeks (2007, 2008, 2009, 2011), tying him with Victorian Rex Broadbent who won in a similar Porsche in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006. Whilst this is a new event, it is a reincarnation of the original Classic Targa Adelaide race.
Both Classic Targa Adelaide champions, Weeks and Broadbent, used the dominant Dunlop Direzza 03G which is widely regarded as the pinnacle tyre for tarmac rallying.
Special mention in the event must also go to Peter Mayer, who won the Regularity category in a 2007 Porsche Cayman S. Mayer used the new Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Starspec tyre, a high performance ‘Non R-Spec’ tyre, beating home competitors using full R-Spec rubber.
