With Christmas just around the corner, JAXQuickfit Tyres is urging motorists to take the necessary safety precautions before they start their holidays.
December and January are typically the ‘holidaying months’, with many Australians about to jump into the car and head away for some rest and relaxation.
A worrying trend though, is that many motorists may take to the roads without having properly checked the condition of their tyres – particularly caravan, boat and camper trailer tyres.
It is imperative that all tyres are checked to make sure they are in an acceptable condition and correctly inflated.
Motorists should adjust tyre pressure in accordance to the indications on the vehicle tyre placard and adjust them if extra load is carried in your car – a luggage-packed vehicle usually requires a higher tyre pressure.
Legally, tyre tread must not be worn beyond a 1.5mm minimum tread depth, with tread wear indicator bars placed around the circumference of the tyre appearing when the tread is worn to 1.6mm.
Whilst respecting the legal limit is of paramount importance, many leading tyre producers point out that as soon as the tread pattern is worn beyond a depth of 3mm, the tyre’s wet grip, aquaplaning performance and ability to pull up safely are all adversely compromised.
It is also important for motorists to visually check the condition of tyres – keeping an eye out for signs of uneven wear and bulging on the tyre sidewall, along with cuts and nicks.
If drivers are in any doubt about performing a tyre safety check, JAXQuickfit Tyres recommends consulting a reputable tyre retailer for advice.
JAXQuickfit Tyres would like to wish you all a safe and happy festive season.
