Chaos reigns while Michelin Shines

Michelin has once again dominated the Australian GT Championship, finishing 1-2-3 in the second round of the Championship held at Phillip Island last weekend.

The weekend threw everything at the MICHELIN tyres, from torrential rain, to freezing temperatures and a drying track, but they delivered the grip and performance that was needed to get the teams home in a winning position.

It was the Dodge Viper of Greg Crick who took the round victory, with race one winners Erebus Racing pilots Peter Hackett and James Brock making it an all Michelin podium.

The first one hour race of the weekend was held on Saturday. Under Australian GT Championship regulations each car must complete a compulsory timed pit stop. Even with a significantly longer timed pit stop as a result of qualifying on the first two rows, the MICHELIN shod Erebus Racing Mercedes-Benz claiming the first 1-2 for the SLS AMG GT3 Customer Sports programme outside Europe. Peter Hackett crossed the line first, just in front of his team-mate James Brock.

Race two was a much more chaotic race with a drying track, two lengthy safety car periods, rain showers, and different tyre strategies mixing the action up on track.

Greg Crick and his MICHELIN shod Dodge Viper made the most of the conditions to grab the win passing the fellow MICHELIN runner, the Aston Martin of Ben Eggleston, in the final two laps of the hour long race.

Michelin’s outstanding results this weekend, combined with the dominant performance in the opening round of the Championship at the Clipsal 500 in March, see them comfortably leading the battle for the Australian GT Championship – Tyre Manufacturer of the Year trophy.

The battle will resume in the third round of the Australian GT Championship at Winton Motor Raceway on June 22 – 24.
