Bridgestone Launches Research Project to Develop a Sustainable Source of Natural Rubber
Guayule (pronounced Why-u-lee) is a perennial shrub native to the southwestern United States and northern Mexico and it produces natural rubber in its bark and roots, which has almost identical qualities to the natural rubber harvested from Hevea trees, which is currently the primary source for the natural rubber used in tyres.

Apparently every year in South Africa, approximately 11 million used tyres languish underneath the sun. So Van Den Berg, who is part of a new generation of local designers interested in using sustainable materials for art and building projects, decided to put the tyres to good use instead of letting them go to waste.

Speaking about the project, Control Techniques project manager Mike Barklie commented: “I measured actual cooling requirements and realised that there were further potential savings to be made by putting in variable-speed drives to match the supply of cooling water to demand. It was a major investment, but we have achieved a tremendously successful result that has a return on investment of less than three years.”
Porsche to fit 19” Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 to new 911 Carrera
In addition to its performance characteristics, the 911 Carrera 2 was designed to meet lower carbon dioxide emission requirements; therefore Goodyear’s FuelSaving Technology informed Porsche’s decision to award the contract to the tyre. The technology is driven by reduced tyre weight and a new ‘high surface’ silica grade that contributes to reduced heat generation, lowering the rolling resistance. Active Braking Technology uses three dimensional block design within the tyre tread to increase contact with the road under braking.

Michelin Helps to Promote Green Energy in Australia
Eight of the teams were equipped with Michelin tyres specially designed for the race, with the lowest rolling resistance tyre ever made (1.5kg/t). This rolling resistance is five times less than an Energy Saver tyre that can be fitted to road cars.
