The Moorabbin store owner will pilot the Gulf Western Oils/Autopro Holden at the event, which will feature JAXQuickfit signage.

McConville, who pulled back from fulltime V8 Supercar competition at the end of last season to operate his own JAXQuickfit Tyres store has a commitment with Walkinshaw Racing to compete in this season’s long-distance races at Phillip Island and Bathurst.

To ensure McConville was up for the challenge, he was scheduled to contest two rounds of the second-tier Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series, at Winton and Townsville.

His experience outclassed the competition and McConville dominated at Winton, impressing industry heavyweights, resulting in a call up for this week-ends race in Townsville.

“To be honest, I am pretty excited with the opportunity to race in the Main Game again,” Cameron McConville said.

“It is great for two reasons. It’s going to give me some good miles before the endurance races with the Toll-Holden Racing Team, but also it’s a good opportunity for the entire JAX family, a chance to see our brand in both the Championship and Development series, in the same weekend.”

Never one to shy away from a challenge, McConville keeps himself busy, competing at the top level of motorsport and maintaining the correct training regime that goes with it, whilst still putting in the long hours to oversee and manage his growing JAXQuickfit franchise.

“I am enjoying the venture into retail, it has been a lot of hard work and in the beginning it was a real juggling act to find the right balance and routine.”

“We opened the doors in November, while I was still racing fulltime, much earlier than I had planned and wanted, and at that time all my energy was going into setting up the business that my training suffered.”

“But the guys at JAX know their stuff, they have an excellent support network in place and the earlier opening allowed us to capitalise on the busy December and January period and really establish the business.”

“My training is now back on track and the business is going from strength to strength, with a record month in June and a growing loyal customer base.”

The late call-up will see McConville hand over the keys of his JAXQuickfit Tyres Commodore in the Fujitsu Series to fellow Holden Racing Team endurance driver and Porsche legend Craig Baird.

Craig Baird is highly regarded in motorsport circles and is the current New Zealand V8 Champion and current New Zealand Porsche GT3 Cup Champion.

Team Owner Lucas Dumbrell is pleased to have McConville joining his team for the event and is confident that the 36 year-old will bring some much needed experience to his squad.

“We have finished every race this year which is pleasing, but I am constantly learning what a race team needs – and that for us at this point in time is drivers with experience.”

In what is sure to be a busy weekend for the Moorabbin JAXQuickfit franchisee, a competition winner of JAXQuickfit Townsville will get the ride of a lifetime with the Holden driver around the Townsville Street Circuit.

McConville’s Holden Commodore will carry the colours of JAXQuickfit Tyres, the company’s first major foray into motorsport sponsorship, at both Winton and in the second outing, on the Townsville street circuit mid-July.

Recently retired from fulltime V8 Supercar competition to operate his own JAXQuickfit Tyres store, McConville now has links with Walkinshaw Racing and recently contested the co-driver sessions at Queensland Raceway, ahead of this season’s long-distance races at Phillip Island and Bathurst.

To ensure he is as sharp as possible for those events, the Moorabbin JAXQuickfit franchisee will make his return to the driver’s seat this weekend.

“V8 Supercar racing is so ridiculously competitive and the pressure is really on co-drivers like me, so I think a couple of races like these will be of great benefit to me,” Cameron McConville explained.

“Even being out of the seat for just six months you lose your edge.

“I need to be as sharp as possible, so with the backing of JAXQuickfit and engineering support from Walkinshaw Racing, we were able to put a deal together for a few extra races.

“Whilst I am enjoying the challenge of running a tyre retail store, and I am delighted to be carrying JAXQuickfit’s colours on my car, I also can’t wait to get back behind the wheel of a V8 Supercar … I have had itchy feet since round one really …”

Winton has a special place in McConville’s heart … it is the scene of his memorable last-lap V8 Supercar Championship round win in 2004.

Manager David Byrne-Smith has been a familiar face on that site for more than 17 years.

“Between David & I, there’s more than 30 years’ combined experience in the business and most importantly, almost two decades of understanding what our customers in Tweed Heads want,” Nathan Brookes said.

Franchisee husband-and-wife team Lindsay and Lorelle Rayner have more than a decade’s experience in the tyre industry, and as Rockhampton locals are already well known for their Southside Tyre & Mechanical  business, upon which the new store is based.

McConville and wife Cassandra are joint franchisees of the newest JAXQuickfit store in Australia, though his association with the national tyre retailer goes back several years.

“I’ve been working with JAXQuickfit for a while as they’ve supported me personally in V8 Supercars, and during that time I visited a lot of stores, and I liked what I saw,” Cam McConville explains.

“JAXQuickfit has real family values and what appealed to me was their business model, which Cassandra and I believe will provide an excellent investment opportunity for our family’s future.”

Although new to the coal face of tyre retailing himself, Cam has appointed an experienced Manager to head up his team of tyre technicians, fitters and mechanics, while wife Cassandra is in charge of the business’ back office.

McConville is well known to motor racing fans after a long professional career in V8 Supercars. He currently drives for the Brad Jones Racing Holden team out of Albury, and just weeks ago finished a career-best second in the Bathurst 1000.

Cam is equally known for his co-hosting of Network 10’s Formula 1 Grand Prix telecasts with Greg Rust.

Mark Winterbottom crossed the line in third place after a stellar race alongside co-driver Steve Richards, who started the 113-lap race from pole position.

“It’s a great result and it’s nice to be back on the podium,” said Frosty.

“I think we’re really building momentum for the big one.”

Richo survived an intense first stint, warring with Alex Davison, David Besnard and being speared off by Nathan Pretty. He held his ground to hand the car over from fourth to Frosty on lap 49.

“The first stint was quite interesting,” said Richo. “I saw Cameron McConville launching onto the track just in front of me and Lee Holdsworth and a few other cars spearing off.

“We seem to be pushing the right buttons at the moment and it’s great to get such a good result forthe L&H 500.”

For Craig Morrison, taking over as the new Franchisee for the JAXQuickfit Tyres Noosaville store is like coming home twice.

A Noosaville native, Morrison recently returned to the town he was born and bred in after more than 20 years away … and he’s also returned to the industry he has spent the majority of his career in.

Morrison and wife Camille have big plans for the former company-owned store, which they stepped in to manage two months ago, prior to taking on the Franchise at the beginning of July.

“This is the ideal opportunity for me … it’s a chance to ‘come home’ and return to the community I love, running a business that I have great expertise in and with a brand that I think is the industry benchmark,” Craig Morrison said.

“Already, Camille and I have made some changes to the showroom to make it a friendlier, more comfortable environment for our customers, we’ve cleaned up the workshop and we’ll have some major new equipment in by the end of the year.”

JAXQuickfit Noosaville already boasts a four-wheel laser alignment machine and a wheel changing machine capable of handling today’s very fashionable large diameter wheels.

“You have to be flexible in a business like this … we’ve got the young guys who want to dress up their cars with the large wheels, we’ve got the normal suburban family cars, there’s local business people, as well as some agricultural work from the farmers in the surrounding areas,” Craig explained.

Originally training as a diesel mechanic at the Nambour Sugar Mill, Craig Morrison moved to a Toyota Dealer to complete his apprenticeship, then on to various car dealers as a Service Manager.

That took him to Darwin where he moved into the tyre industry, taking on a Bridgestone retail outlet and then on to Adelaide and a long stint running the company’s biggest store.

A move to Mullins Wheels was next, as both a State Manager and then Marketing Manager, before the decision to come home to Noosaville and join JAXQuickfit Tyres.

“Between my staff & I, we have about 40 years’ mechanical experience so we can back-up our major tyre brands and huge range of wheels with brake, suspension and mechanical servicing.”

Australia’s tyre market is one of the most competitive in the world, with consumers having a large number of tyre brands and tyre retailers to choose from.

Customer-serviced based Awards are thus hard fought and highly prized, which is why JAXQuickfit Tyres is delighted to have recently won four of them at four separate stores in two states.

JAXQuickfit Castle Hill (Sydney), Penrith (NSW), Salamander Bay (NSW) and Ipswich West (Brisbane) have all recently earned customer-driven business Awards in their local communities.

Originally from Brisbane, the JAXQuickfit Tyres Salamander Bay store Franchisee is now a convert to the region and says the recent recognition for his business is a real pat on the back.

Further north again, the Ipswich West store has also won a local Award for business excellence.

JAXQuickfit Tyres Ipswich West won the Motor Vehicle Services division of the Business Achievers Awards, run by the Ipswich News, part of the Quest Community Newspapers group.

Franchisee and long-time tyre man Wayne Gough said the Award was appreciated by everyone in the business.
