Continental Tyres has put together an informative video to assist consumers in understanding the differences between premium vs budget tyres.

Choosing a tyre can be difficult. They look similar and until you get them on the car, you don’t know how they are going to perform out on the road. Continental’s wet braking test showcases the difference between a set of premium tyres and a set of cheaper cheaper budget tyres that look similar but perform very differently on the road.

The budget tyre took an average of 14 metres or 3 and 1/2 car lengths extra to stop. See Video

If you are budget conscious, the cheaper tyre options could appear preferable, but are they more economical in the long run? Even though premium tyres cost more initially, they can return better economy over the tyres’ life and more importantly provide safer motoring.

As is common knowledge, many industries have been severely affected by the recent global economic downturn, particularly the automotive industry.

When it comes time to replace your tyres, it is often difficult to decide upon the kind of tyres to choose. If you are budget conscious, the cheaper tyre options could appear preferable, but are they more economical in the long run? What is the actual difference between these lower priced tyres and the premium alternatives?

Lower priced or cheaper tyres tend to have similar looking tread patterns to the premium options, but they are not in the main optimised in the design stage for quiet running, which will spoil the car’s ride comfort.

Rubber compounds used may include lower quality materials and consequently tyre life and the ability to brake efficiently in both dry and wet conditions may be compromised. Lower tyre life will mean that the cost for each kilometre you drive will be higher and negate the benefits of the apparent savings made when the tyres were new.

Premium tyres, although initially appearing more expensive, offer greater performance in wet weather, produce shorter braking distances and improved handling capabilities. Top brand tyres are designed and equipped to travel on the varied and harsh road conditions around Australia and offer superior ride comfort and generate less tyre noise.

Even though premium tyres cost more initially, they can return better economy over the tyres’ life and more importantly provide safer motoring.

Premium tyres like Bridgestone, BFGoodrich, Dunlop, Goodyear, Michelin and Pirelli are all available at JAXQuickfit Tyres
