Leading global premium tyre maker, Hankook Tire (President & CEO Hyun Bum Cho) announced that Turán Frigyes, equipped with Hankook racing tyres (for rally cars), won the Rally Hungary 2019, the eighth round of the 2019 FIA European Rally Championship (ERC), held in Hungary from November 8th to 10th.

Originally organized by the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) in 1953, the European Rally Championship is a challenging motorsports competition that has to overcome extreme weather conditions and complete tough courses. The course is not a racing circuit but a road course with extreme on and off-road conditions, so that the agility and robust durability of the tyres, in response to sudden changes in the road surfaces, becomes significant.

The event ran a total distance of 1001.7 kilometres (including the travel section) over three days, with 14 special stages (211.5 kilometres) to determine the final winner. Despite the harsh weather conditions that led to the cancellation of the final special stage and forced more than 40 percent of the 94 rally cars to deviate from the course in the middle of the race, Hankook Tire's anti-puncture performance played a significant role, beating other global competitors such as Michelin and Pirelli, and winning the final rally with the fastest time.

Hankook Tire is showcasing its global technological prowess as a top tier global company by supplying racing tyres or sponsoring participating teams at top-class global motorsports events as the DTM, F3 Americas and Formula Renault Eurocup. It is also leading the development of motorsport culture, by making special motorsport trailers to provide space for strategic meetings and rest areas for the sponsored teams, which is a first among the Korean automobile industry.
