Dunlop Celebrate 120 Years at Bathurst

Dunlop Celebrated its 120th Year Anniversary at the Bathurst 100 last Month.

At Bathurst, Dunlop representatives were joined by Ford Performance Racing drivers Steven Richards and Mark Winterbottom to cut our 120th birthday cake. Dunlop V8 Supercar Operations Manager Kevin Fitzsimons was also on hand over the weekend to explain the evolution of motorsport tyres to the media and visitors at the Dunlop garage.

Tyres on display included a 1907 tyre that Australians Harry James and H.L. Stevens drove a total 777 miles in 24 hours - a world record; the tyre Stirling Moss used in Formula 1 racing in 1958, the year he drove both Cooper and Vanwall cars to win four of the 10 race series; the tyre used by Jackie Stewart to win the Formula 1 World Championship in 1969; and a tyre like the one used by Peter Brock to win Bathurst in 1972 - the first of his 9 victories, five on Dunlop tyres.

With over 1200 tyres supplied throughout the race weekend, the Dunlop control tyre proved a key component both on the track and off it. On the track some teams struggled with their vehicle set up impacting the left rear tyre of cars throughout the race. However, as Team Vodafone proved, the teams that were on top of this were the ones that ended victorious on this famous circuit which carries a different type of loading to other circuits in the Championship.

Dunlop also provided their 60,000th tyre to the V8 Supercar Championship which went to Jason Bright of Britek Motorsport. Off the track Dunlop celebrated their 120th anniversary in style with a cake cutting ceremony with Ford Performance Racing Drivers Mark Winterbottom and Steven Richards.

Kevin Fitzsimons also hosted a Q&A on the evolutionof the Motorsport tyre in the Dunlop garage throughout the race weekend.
