Denyer set for Phillip Island Finale
Grant Denyer hit the track at Phillip Island today in practise for the final round of the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Championship. Driving the Summit Fleet Leasing/JAXQuickfit Ford, Denyer was in the top 8 of both practise sessions and happy with the set up of the car.
"We worked a lot on the car through both sessions, and I was happy with the final set up. I didn't get a clear lap for the whole of the second session, but I think the car is better than the time suggests."
Sitting 8th in the Championship series despite missing the Wakefield Park round, the final two races over the weekend will determine the series winner.
The SUNRISE weatherman also announced today live on air that he is handing the weather role over to SUNRISE team mate Monique Wright next year. He will continue to be involved on a regular basis with the SUNRISE family, but will also be working on other projects for the Network.
"It's been a great three years, but the early morning starts and being constantly on the road have meant little time at home - and Fergus my dog no longer recognises me - not to mention Belinda!" Denyer explained. "I am tired of being attacked every time I walk through my own front gate when Icome home - and Fergus is even worse!"
The opportunity to scale back the travel will also allow a more concentratedeffort on motor racing next year plus the continued involvement with SUNRISE will ensure he stays in touch with the programmes loyal viewer base.
Qualifying for the Fujitsu V8 Supercar series will be held on Saturday morning followed by 2 x 19 lap races over the weekend.
