Lowndes Sails with Pirelli at start of Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race
V8 Supercar driver Craig Lowndes will join this year's prestigious Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race as a special guest onboard the 65 foot pocket-maxi Pirelli. Lowndes will assist the Pirelli team with final testing of the equipment in Sydney Harbour, before moving to the Official Starter's Boat to witness the start of the 2007 Rolex Sydney Hobart.
"The Sydney Hobart yacht race is one of the most iconic sporting events in Australia, and I'm thrilled to be a part of the pre-race action," said Lowndes, a three-time Bathurst winner and former V8 Supercar champion.
"It's a privilege to be a part of the team's last-minute preparations, and I'm really looking forward to experiencing the build-up to the race onboard Pirelli. "With such a long race and so many unpredictable factors such as the weather, the teams face one of the most demanding challenges in Australian sport. I've got a lot of respect for anyone who undertakes this race."
Skippered by Les Goodridge and navigated by Ian 'Bugsy' Potter, a 30-time Rolex Sydney Hobart competitor, Pirelli is no stranger to Sydney Hobart competition, having competed in 10 Sydney Hobart races.
