Inez van
Lamsweerde
and Vinoodh Matadin are the photographers who will be shooting
the 2007 edition of the Cal. Once again, the choice has fallen on a duo,
after Mert and Marcus, who did the 2006 edition.
The photographers, both
born and raised in Amsterdam, have introduced innovation to the world of
photography and design through digital image manipulation.
They began
working together in 1990, shooting pictures that accentuated colors and
implied extreme “edgy” situations appearing provocative and dramatically
expressive.
The result
is a powerful blend of eclectic, essential images that profoundly
explore a woman’s personality.
Starting at the end of
June, the two artists will be in a top secret location of California to
shoot the 33rd edition of the
Pirelli calendar.
For the 2007 calendar,
which has an exceptional cast of 5 extraordinary actresses, the two
photographers want to capture all the personality and sensuality of the
five divas.
The words “personality
and sensuality” are the key to interpreting this edition. Having
banished glamour, fashion and high society, the great portraitist Ines
immediately established a feeling with the stars and put them at ease.
From one woman to another, she tried to capture the most intense and
hidden aspects of the leading ladies.
The interpreters:
- Sophia Loren
“I had a great time and
felt like a kid,” said the Neapolitan actress who was the first to pose
for the Cal 2007. Each Picture expresses both the artist and
photographer’s inner personality.” (Backstage photo of the
Pirelli 2007
Calendar by C. Ruspoli.)
Posing on the following
days:
- Hilary Swank:
American actress and winner of the Oscar for Best Actress for “Million
Dollar Baby”;
- Naomi Watts:
born in the UK and raised in Australia, the interpreter of two cult
films such as “The Ring” and “King Kong”;
- Penelope Cruz:
vibrant Spanish actress with a fresh clean look who quickly became an
international star. Her career began in 1992, and she has since made
over 40 films. She achieved success in Pedro Almodovar’s films “Live
Flesh” (1997) and “All About My Mother” (1999);
- Lou Doillon:
young French actress and daughter of Jane Birkin and director Jacques
Doillon.
