About Lamborghini
Lamborghini is an Italian car manufacturer based in the small township of Sant'Agata Bolognese. Founded in 1963 by manufacturing magnate Ferruccio Lamborghini, the company arrived relatively late on the automaker scene.
The original manifesto of Lamborghini was to create a refined, grand touring car, and the company had immediate success with the 350Gt and 400GT variants. Lamborghini's mid engine layout has become the standard approach for most "supercars".
After an initial period of success times became tough for the brand with the 1973 oil crisis, and prestige car sales plummeted. An Indonesian owner and a period with Chrysler made little difference, but the brand persisted until it was bought by German company Audi. Sales have thrived under Audi's engineering excellence, although vehicles are still assembled at Lamborghini's ancestral home in Italy.
The future for supercars is never certain, and global financial downturns have affected sales of luxury brands. However, there is no doubt that Lamborghini continues to be a sought after, iconic niche brand, laden with credibility.
