About Land Rover

The Land Rover brand name has become a byword for tough, off road vehicles. In today's incarnation the Land Rover is a luxury SUV with serious off-road ability. The company can trace its beginnings to 1948, making it the second oldest brand of its type behind Jeep.

Initially an offshoot car of British automaker Rover, it split from the parent company and became an independent brand. Land Rover has passed through various owners including a stint with British Leyland, which saw it lose some credibility for reliability issues. However, this was later rectified under the ownership of BMW. BMW subsequently sold the company to Ford, who added it to their Premier Auto Group roster before divesting itself of the brand to Indian Tata in 2007.

Despite these changes of ownership, Land Rover has continued to build on its strong reputation and is now widely regarded as a prestige SUV brand with genuine off road credentials.
