About Maserati

Maserati is a prestige car brand originally founded by five brothers in Italy in the 1920's. The brothers had been involved in car making since the start of the 20th century, but it wasn't until 1926 that the Maserati brand was officially born.

Like so many Italian car brands, Maserati was involved with racing and enjoyed some success. The brand was once owned by Citroen, before a private owner took control of the company. A stint under Fiat's stewardship followed, but it wasn't until Maserati was bought out by arch rival Ferrari (who assumed full ownership in 1999) that the brand really came into its own.

Maserati had enjoyed a strong cult status, but Ferrari made Maserati its luxury brand and built a new factory to replace the existing 1940's vintage facility. After many years of borderline bankruptcy, Maserati enjoyed a renaissance and most recently has been in talks with Audi with the intention of gaining access to the German maker's All Wheel Drive technology.

A niche, prestige brand, Maserati is now enjoying solid sales backed by the kind of credibility that only comes with a premium product.
