Cameron McConville fights back from a DNF in Race 1 in Darwin,NT

2008 Australian V8 Supercar Championship Overview

A passionate crowd was entertained by close racing in beautiful, warm, dry season weather this weekend for 3 fabulous days in Darwin for the 6th Round of the Championship. For WOW Racing the Top End trek generated a mixed outcome. Cameron McConville fought back from a DNF (Did Not Finish) in Race 1 to finish Race 3 in 12th delivering 82 valuable points to his Series tally while also contributing to the Team's Championship

Cameron : "This field is so tight, it takes a whole weekend to get back to something like a respectable position. Thanks to the nonsense at the start of Race 1 my weekend was tipped upside down even before I got started. At least we made genuine progress with the car and in Race 3 I had a great battle chasing Todd Kelly and Greg Murphy. I reckon we were on for a Top Ten if the Race 1 DNF had not occurred. In between events we will continue to work on various improvements and I want to iron out a few niggles with the chassis set-up and the brakes"

Racing Summary

Cam McConville Qualified (18th) despite some nagging brake balance problems and progressed into the second group in the elimination Qualifying process.

Race 1

Steven Johnson and Paul Morris were scuffling through Turn 1 on Lap 1. As Steven recovered he blindly bumped Cameron off the road. A front tyre was damaged requiring an early pit stop. Once Cam was one lap down the car was parked to preserve rubber for Races 2 and 3.

Race 2

Cameron marched through the field. Another flat spot on a front tyre forced an early pit stop but McConville was able to continue his strong run to gain 12 spots and finish 17th.

Race 3

With soaring 44 degree track temperatures Cameron resumed his determined push. At Turn 6 on Lap 1 the WOW Commodore was damaged in nose-to-tail to contact involving many cars. Bonnet damage slowed the straight line speed, however, Cam was able to press-on and chased home Todd Kelly and Greg Murphy for an excellent 12th placing.
